Gran Canaria: Tejeda
“One of the most beautiful towns in Spain”
Tejeda village is a very charming village located about 1000 meters high and its situated practically in the middle of the island. It is named “Pueblos más bonitos de España” (most beautiful towns in Spain). Moreover, due to its location and high, it is one of the coldest towns in the island. In the winter it could be less than 10 C/50 F during the day. Also, during winter the sky is usually cloudy and foggy, making it feel colder because of the humidity.
The town is not very big, it can be walked practically in 20 minutes on foot. You can visit the Church of Nuestra Señora del Socorro, next to the Tejeda Town Hall, as well as its different streets and pedestrian alleys. The town is surrounded by mountains and the appearance of its white houses with traditional architecture is beautiful. It also has views mainly towards Roque Bentayga, but also Roque Nublo from some parts of the town. All this landscape is part of the Sacred Mountains of Gran Canaria, a World Heritage Site.
Leaving the town towards Roque Bentayga I came across this sculpture of a traditional giant basket, where there were always people taking pictures of themselves. It’s a better picture just showing of the Roque.
Tejeda is well worth the visit and a great place to base out of if you want to do some beautiful hikes. (see previous posts)
Not to mention, the sunsets are spectacular!!
