Cervesina, Italy

When you are offered work in Cervesina, Italy and find your office and home for 2 days is a 15th century castle…what else is there to say but, “Yes, please & thank you!” San Gaudenzio Castle reflects the typical architecture of 15th century castles in Lombardy.

Milan Airport to the castle was a 1.5 hour drive. I arrived early yesterday morning, about 10am. There was one person at the front desk to check me in, and walk me through a maze of halls and rooms to my room, then through more of a maze to check out my training room. Then back through the maze to my room. On the way I asked about an open cafe, or a restaurant close, or a village nearby, or somewhere to get coffee. Nothing open in the hotel or there is nothing around but farmland. He did get the kitchen to make me coffee and bring me some croissants since the restaurant was closed. Very kind.

When I got out to explore there was no one, anywhere. NO ONE. I had the entire castle to myself. I wandered the halls, the rooms, the grounds, and then around the area, finally seeing a lone horse. Life!! I felt a little like I was in an apocalyptic movie and I was the only one left. I thought for sure I’d run into the Ghost of Christmas Past in the halls.

People finally arrived around 7pm in the evening and my class showed up today, all is good in the castle!
