Day 43: Finisterre - Lighthouse, 7 km round trip.
Today is a day where we mostly walked around town, ate, drank, and continuously said out loud with awe, "We did it. We are here." We've congratulated ourselves. We've congratulated each other. We are congratulated by, and congratulate, familiar faces and complete strangers. We now have a shared bond. An accomplishment unlike any before. We've walked The Camino.
I can't believe I've actually walked 888 official kms (552 miles) carrying my 27 lb (12 kilo) magical beast on my back the entire way. What this means and what will come of it is still a mystery. Right now it's still too much to wrap my brain around. After all, it's just walking...right?!?
Sunset at the lighthouse is a peregrino ritual. As with every part of this journey, there are Way markers guiding us along our path. In Galicia, the Way markers count down the kilometers to our destination. First to Santiago. Then to Finisterre. The Way marker here at the lighthouse indicates 0.0 km. We have arrived!!!
With wine and chocolate in hand, we celebrated our arrival once again. Looking out at the ocean, it's easy to see just how true it must have felt during medieval times...that you really are standing at the end of the world.
Tomorrow we set out on foot for Muxia, a small fishing village 30 km up the coast and the final leg of The Camino Finisterre-Muxia. One more 7am departure. One more time to follow the markers. One last certificate. Life is beckoning us back into its fold and we feel it's call more profoundly now then ever. Yet, we shall hold it off for just one more day.
