Day 23: Day off in Leon.
The Cathedral here is considered a stunning masterpiece of Gothic architecture. The Leon cathedral is also one of the three most important cathedrals on El Camino de Santiago, along with that of Burgos and Santiago de Compostela.
This Cathedral is built with so much glass and so little wall (a real phenomenon that shifted the gothic architecture of its time) it was in danger of collapse. It's called the Cathedral of Light. On the west side is darker colors and pictures of the profits depicting a time before Christ was born so moving towards the light. On the east side are windows of the apostles that receive the sunrise depicting the time after Jesus's birth. The thought put into every detail is indeed awesome.
And today is a perfect day off. After the Cathedral we had a fabulous lunch on the square and a walk through our “hood”. It’s been fun to do “normal things” like having friends over for wine and tapas and then watching a movie on my iPhone before starting walking again in the morning. 3 long, very hot baths later, I may just be ready to leave.
