Day 15: Kaikoura - Picton
Today I come full circle from where I started my Stray Travel road trip all around the South Island. We drive from Kaikoura to Picton where I will spend the night. I can’t believe I leave the bus, my new travel buddies, and the South Island behind very shortly.
I woke early to enjoy sunrise on the beach, it was well worth getting up for. Then back to Jerry’s for breakfast. He’d invited Hunter, our Stray driver, as well as the driver of another company called Kiwi Experience and myself back this morning. It was nice to get to visit with him and the couple of guys who help with his fishing business without the crowd. Very special.
We left Kaikoura behind for a scenic drive north along the east coast with views of the pacific all along the way. I ended up in a beautiful motel room with Harbour views in Picton for an overnight before catching the ferry back to the north island. Picton is a cute, small coastal town, easy to explore on foot and is the main ferry hub for ferry travel between the 2 islands. It’s now time for me to get my head into work mode as I make my way up to Auckland.
