Valensole, the Village

Valensole is a small town on the northern edge of the Verdon Regional Nature Park in the south-west of the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence.  It is a small traditional Provencal town which really only seems to get visited because of the surrounding countryside - in particular the Valensole plateau.  This surrounding area is famous for its lavender and its almond and olive tree plantations.  Covering approximately 800km2, this plateau is the biggest area in France devoted to growing lavender and the blue, violet and purple-colored fields are certainly why I ended up here.  That being said, I did have a walk around town and had fun taking these pictures.  The historic center of Valensole contains beautiful old houses in the colors of Provence.
