Chamonix Lac Blanc Hike

Chamonix-Mont Blanc day 1 epic hike: Lac Blanc & Lacs des Chéserys

I started at Refuge La Flégère (1807 m/5928 ft) and hiked up to Lac Blanc (2352 m/7716 ft) then on to Lac des Cheserys (2240 m/7349 ft) then looped back to where I started. The hike is rated “easy” yet there were times it challenged my current fitness level and it was so worth it!!

DIRECTIONS: From Chamonix City Centre you can take the free shuttle bus (be sure to get your free shuttle card from your hotel or the information center where you can also purchase a map and inquire about conditions on the trails) to get the gondola up to Refuge la Flégère from the village of les Praz.  There is a bus stop right at the lift station. This is your easiest starting point for the hike although you can hike up and skip the gondola if you so choose.

The Lac Blanc hike is one of the great hiking classics in the valley, recommended by pretty much everyone and for good reason!  The breathtaking views of Mont Blanc and the glaciers, as well as the beauty of both glacier lakes are hard to do justice to but you know I’ve tried. The hardest part was figuring out which pictures to post.

As an added bonus there are several places for rest and refreshments (aka wine) along your route.   The gondola drops you off at the Refuge la Flégère if you need any supplies or just want a cup of coffee and a bathroom before starting out.  Then when you get to Lac Blanc there is the lovely Refuge du Lac Blanc.  Upon your return and within view of the Refuge la Flégère & your gondola ride back down the mountain there is another café worth a stop to celebrate the amazing hike you’ve just accomplished.  Cheers!!
