The days have been starting out quite blustery with the seas crashing over the wall outside my apartment on occasion. Luckily things seem to calm a bit by mid day.

Yesterday I took a beautiful walk to a beach outside of town and had a very refreshing swim although the seas were still a bit rough. Getting in and out proved tricky with a steep slope of rocks, the beaches here are all rocks and pebbles, and the waves were crashing close to shore. This experience has resulted in the purchase of a new pair of water shoes that I took out for a test swim today. I love them!! I also purchased a beach mat that I intend to use for yoga as well.

There is a lovely church of St. Nicholas and a convent on the hill above town built by the Benedictines in the 13th century after they moved here from Biševo (a nearby island). St. Nicholas is the patron saint of sailors, fishermen and travelers. Traditions has it that when a boat at sea is in line with the Church of St. Nicholas, sailors raise their hats, greet the saint, and pray, "Saint Nicholas help us with our voyage and fishing.

I continued my walk looking for a beach with a beach pub I knew was somewhere off the beaten track.

Found the beach & beach bar! Okay. So my bad. They offered Caipirinhas at this great little beach bar. The fact they don't have limes here should have told me all I needed to know. I am NOT in Brazil!!
