Post 2: Komiza, just getting to know you!
Getting to know the area a bit better has been a joy. Komiza is on the island of Vis in the Adriatic Sea. The island measures about 9 miles long by 4 miles wide, and is situated 35 miles due south of Split, Croatia, which is the closest airport to fly into. The peak of the island, Mount Hum, has an elevation of 2,000 feet. Vis town is located on the northeastern part of Vis island, (so is their address Vis, Vis?) and is the ferry port when coming in from Split. Once there, you can take a bus up and over to the western shore where Komiza is located.
Komiza's main industries, outside of tourism which is growing, is fishing and wine making. There are records of wine being made here as far back as 2000 years. So it seems I've found myself in the heart of wine country once again. Coincidence or am I really this lucky?? I'll leave that for you to decide. The local bijelo vino (white) is Vugava and the crno vino (red) is Plavac Mali. Yum!!! You'll notice I have no comments on the fishing industry...this vegetarian knows her lane!
I spent the day just wandering the streets, exploring the village, and just sitting by the water watching the world float by. Getting to know Komiza is falling in love with Komiza!
