La Gomera Hike 6: Degollada La Peraza - San Sebastián

Today’s route started at 950m/3317ft and consisted of all volcanic terrain with breath-taking views and ever-changing landscapes.
The first section was relatively easy downhills and flats.

I passed through the abandoned village of Seima, which was interesting to see.

All the yellow flowers were smiling their happy shiny faces on this section.

The easy beginning of this hike was a bit deceiving.  Needless to say, it got tougher as I went along.  The trek today had a bit of the “all of all of it”.  There were many up and down steep slopes to hike as I crossed 4 mountains…or was it 5?!?  I trekked down to 2 beaches, through multiple long valleys, and was challenged in certain areas with very vague, or sometimes nonexistent, way-markings.  Most of the hike was out in the direct sun with no shade all day, and not an “angel stop” with wine or beer in sight. (**shout out to my Camino buddies – oh how we loved those unexpected “angel stops”)

Here is my first beach I must get down to and that’s Mt. Teide on the neighboring island of Tenerife, the tallest peak in all of Spain. The top is often covered in clouds, what a treat for it to show itself today.

Here’s where I’m just going up and down and all around trying to get back to the town it all started in, San Sebastián. This is just a small part of the route I’ve trekked today.

This is the 2nd beach having walked down from the hill through the valley and then looking at a portion of the next hill I have yet to climb. The taller part doesn’t even show from here.

San Sebastián in sight!! All that in 20+k/12+ miles. This was my final day of La Gomera hiking and it was a doozie!!

I stopped at the first beach bar I found open in town was my first stop.  Just so you know, I had 2!!  La Gomera, you made me work hard for you and I’m grateful for all the breathtaking beauty you shared with me.
