Gran Canaria: Playa de Las Canteras, Las Palmas

I made my way by ferry from Tenerife to the neighboring island of Gran Canaria where I have now set up home for the next 4 months. After hours of searching to find the exact right place, I found Living Las Canteras Homes, www.livinglascanteras.com.  The pictures were literally everything I wanted for my time in Gran Canaria.  I reached out to Juan Betancor, the founder, and he was instrumental in helping me figure it all out.  After bombarding him with many questions, all of which he answered thoroughly and with the greatest of kindness and patience, I chose the apartment I am in now overlooking “Playa de Las Canteras”.  It is literally everything I wanted and so much more.

Playa de Las Canteras has been called the world’s best city beach, located in the capital of Gran Canaria, Las Palmas de G.C. It has received the blue flag certification from the Foundation for Environmental Education, for having the characteristics of cleanliness, safety and accessibility necessary to obtain it. The beach has golden sand vs. the black sands of Tenerife and is protected by a natural reef called La Barra which reveals itself during low tide.

The ocean here is always perfectly clean and crystal clear and when the tide is out, particularly tranquil and inviting to swim in.  The beach from end to end is approximately 3 km long and is kept pristine, it is literally groomed every night.  There is also an awesome promenade that runs along its entirety offering shops and cafes and so much life.

So far, I love it here!!!

This is the view from my balcony.
