Cascias: The Streets in Centro Historico
I say all the time the only way to get to know a place is to walk it. So walk it I did! Cascais is incredibly charming and the narrow streets and beautiful architecture make each street unique in it’s own way. The streets themselves are a work of art. With their traditional Portuguese black-and-white stone mosaic (called calcada), the streets are truly distinctive and slippery as ice when wet and sometimes just as slippery when dry, so be forewarned! I do not know how every one isn’t falling all the time. I got to the point that I wore my hiking shoes instead of my sandals just to ensure I didn’t kill myself. They are so beautiful though, it’s impossible to hold a grudge.
