Cooking Class in Genoa
While in Genoa we knew we would be eating a lot of amazing Italian food. After all it is the birthplace and “the capital of delicious pesto (pesto alla Genovese) and good food.” We decided to take it a step farther, while here why not learn to cook amazing Italian food. Shayne was sold on the idea the minute he found a class advertising a pasta AND tiramisu cooking experience. We got all of that and so much more.
Tomaso, his daughter Agata, with 94-year-old Nonna (the Grandmother) making the occasional appearance, welcomed Shayne and I into their home to cook with them.
It was truly a magical evening. We created from scratch raviolis, gnocchi, and of course the tiramisu. Tomaso is a professional chef and you can imagine how amazing the bread and pesto he made in advance was. He proudly showed us his live culture for the homemade bread that he’s used for 17 years (pictured below). The meal was exceptional rivaled only by the fun, warmth, and kindness of the family we made it with.
Nonna’s home was just beautiful with books everywhere and art she painted herself.
Tomaso is not only a chef, he’s also an accomplished musician and played his own musical cd (volume on for the video above) for us during dinner,
then gifted the same cd to us of him playing.
To top it all off he actually invited us into his sacred meditation room, took out his extraordinary 1912 contrabbasso…the double bass, and played for us. His daughter Agata said, “he surely must love you as he never ever does this for anyone.” We were deeply moved as we stood in his sanctuary mesmerized by the beauty of his soul being expressed through his music. A very special moment in time we will never forget!
We were deeply touched by this wonderful family who opened up their home and their hearts to us!
