Lake Balaton: Laposa Birtok (Winery)
I took the train from Balatonfüred to Badacsony, an hour southwest and into the heart of Badacsony wine country. My first stop on my walking adventure was Laposa Winery and Wine Terrace. The Laposa family name is synonymous to wine making in the Balaton Uplands. In their winery they mostly make white wines. They work with traditional, local grape varieties typical of the Badacsony wine region and produce about 500,000 bottles a year. Their main varieties are Welschriesling, Rhine Riesling, Pinot Gris, Kéknyelű, Furmint and Juhfark. They have long-aged, barrelled, vineyard selections, but they also make fresh, reductive wines.
I tried several of their wines and left with a lovely bottle of Kéknyelű, a grape I had not heard of before visiting this winery…very yummy!!
I definitely found my happy place on their Wine Terrace sipping lovely wines, eating local cheese and warm bread while enjoying the breathtaking panoramic views of Lake Balaton.

This is one of the bottles I brought back in my backpack that I tried when at the vineyard. Laposa Kéknyelű, a white wine made from the kéknyelu grapes. The write up is worth reading (picture 3 for English)...I put it in my translator and knew I had to have it! Loved this line, “it requires a lot of attention, but it thanks you for caring!”
