Vienna: Street Art Passage
One does not usually think of Urban Street Art when one thinks of visiting the MuseumsQuartier in Vienna. AND walking through the impressive and beautiful buildings in the MuseumsQuartier definitely makes you want to stop and see what each building’s art is all about. That said, on this day I was in search of street art…which brought me to this particular passage.
In September 2008 the ”Street Art Passage Vienna” was opened on the initiative of quartier21 as a continuation of an already existing series of thematic passageways in the MuseumsQuartier Wien. The passageways are exhibition venues in public space which are each dedicated to specific cultural forms of expression (comic, sound art, typography etc). Moreover, the ”Street Art Passage Vienna“ has a site-specific setting: It is the bridge from the Spittelberg – a center of the Vienna street art scene – to the 90,000 m2 cultura area of the MuseumsQuartier.

French artist ‘Invader’, whose work is a permanent fixture of the passage, turns the walls from grey to blue and black with his space invader tiles, giving a dizzying effect to passers-by.
