Day 7: Los Arcos - Viana, 18.5 km.

I could just say I'm entering the region in Spain known as La Rioja and drop the mic. Yes, Rioja country produces wine that is a staple here and the trek is now taking me through vineyards and olive tree groves. The wine and the views are perfection. Not to mention the cost of the best Rioja wine by the glass has yet to be more then 1 euro. How will I ever leave here???

The day went very well. I am learning to embrace the pain in my feet, and everywhere else it shows up, pain is an inevitable partner on the Camino so may as well make friends with it. We continuously compare and contrast our wounds while laughing at the fact that the way we are walking, with a distinct gate/hobble, immediately identifies us as peregrinos. We look like the zombie apocalypse coming to take the next village we come across.

Marina & I continued to share the Camino and found the most lovely place for a leisurely lunch with fellow pilgrims. Every pilgrim has a story, it’s special to hear and experience such a diverse group of individuals and to learn what has brought us each here, at this exact time, on this exact journey. Inspiration abounds.

***1 week stats: Fitbit:  113 miles. The Camino: 156 km/97 miles

I've completed my first 7 days on The Camino and it's been spectacular. My Fitbit says I've walked a total of 113 miles which is inclusive of exploring around the towns upon arrival. The official Camino mileage is 156 km/97 mi. I can feel how much stronger I'm getting. I can now walk for hours with Beastie on my back and never have to adjust. I've come a long way. I'm a good pace car on the steep ascents and descents now, slow and steady. πŸ˜€
