Day 39:  Santiago Day 2

Bryan and I had our last cafe con leche and chocolate croissant together in Spain at 7:15 am this morning awaiting the lovely owner of our Airbnb who offered to drive him to the airport.  After standing on a street corner crying and watching him drive away, I felt called to walk to the cathedral. It was drizzling out, the streets and squares around the cathedral were completely empty, it all felt quite surreal. I walked into an empty cathedral and was able to walk through the timeless ritual done forever by the pilgrims who've walked before me..with no crowds.

Due to renovation I was only able to complete 2 of the 4 traditions. I ascended the stairs of the alter and hugged the apostle, a baroque statue of St James.  After that, I descended into the crypt to kneel and pray at the cask that contains his bones, this being the reason the pilgrimage exists.  It was a very powerful and moving experience. Words just don't do it justice. I then spent time exploring the cathedral and just allowed myself to deeply feel the awe of it all. To do all of this and have the time and space without any of the crowds feels miraculous.

The rest of the day was spent connecting with friends...Marina, Julia, and Michael, and strolling the streets of Santiago.

Tomorrow the next Camino begins!!
