Barcelona: El Born
We spent a full day just walking circles and getting lost and found in El Born. It is the neighborhood in the heart of the old city with so many artisan shops, hip restaurants, natural wine bars, and street art I could be happy here for days. El Born is by far one of my favorite neighborhoods.
In this neighborhood you will also find the 2nd World Heritage Site designed by Lluís Domènech i Montaner, the Palau de la Música Catalana. This world-renown concert hall was built between 1905 and 1908 and still functions as a concert hall today.
Another great, and very hidden treasure is the Antic Teatre with loads of history. It holds a hidden bar and garden within it’s walls, a perfect location for a respite and cocktail completely off the beaten track.
El Born’s market, Santa Caterina, is one of the city’s most famous. Built atop an old convent, it was one of the first covered markets in the city and recently received an impressive makeover in the market revival program. Its colorful, wavy roof is just another reason to visit this beautiful market...and far less tourists here.
Mercado de La Boqueria. This market is the most famous and over run with tourists. Go to the other 2 I recommended. This one is just not worth the crowds and higher prices.
The oldest speciality shop in the city, Productes Sabor, is worth a check out.
Lunch is Italian today! 4.7 on the reviews and super cheap. Tucco Real Food: Address: Carrer del Consolat de Mar, 23, 08003 Barcelona, Spain
El Born is at it’s very best when you just wander to your heart’s content. Stop in anywhere and everywhere!
