Day 28: Blue Duck Station - Raetihi

My last morning at the farm started with a walk to see the baby cows and lambs for the last time. You can imagine my excitement when the opportunity came my way to bottle feed one of the orphans, I was all in! A good way to spend the morning before hitting the road once again.

On the road to Raetihi we stopped to hike to several waterfalls and did a couple hour loop trek in Tongariro National Park. Today was foggy and misty and the hike felt very other worldly. I had intended to hike the 19 km pass over the mountain but the weather prevented that as an option.

We spent the night at Snowy Waters Lodge, The Old Nurses Home & Doctors Residence in Historic Raetihi with views of Mt. Ruapehu and Mt. Ngauruhoe (Mt. Doom). The weather hasn’t cooperated preventing me from seeing anything other then the base of the mountain.

Tomorrow we make it to Wellington for my last night with my Stray travel buddies as my time in New Zealand comes to an end. I’m feeling a bit sad to be leaving, it’s been a spectacular journey.
