Women/Girls and Media: Power, Storytelling, and #MeToo
I am privileged to work with my dear friend, Sheva Carr & an amazing group of women activists on this year's parallel panel at the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (CSW62). This years focus is on The UN's Sustainable Development Goal 5 (SDG5): Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls. It's all happening in NYC on March 13th, the venue is in Manhattan 2 blocks from Time Square.
The Panel will address the following:
Which stories get told, and by whom, is central to achieving gender equality. When those imbued with power to tell stories to large audiences propagate limiting gender stereotypes, sexism becomes embedded in the culture. This panel of amazing gender equality leaders in film, media, and advocacy will explore the status of gender representation in entertainment and show how this domain can be used for advancing SDG5, leveraging media to empower women and girls worldwide to tell their own stories, diversifying the media landscape. Learn best practices for broadening the existing media economy and leveraging media to highlight women and girls’ voices.
